We started with a simple belief: owning cryptocurrency should never mean trusting someone else with your keys.
Syntercept LLC was founded in San Francisco in 2021 by a small team of security engineers and embedded-systems specialists who had spent years working on authentication hardware, secure elements and consumer electronics. We watched the same story repeat itself too many times: exchanges and online services holding customer funds, and customers losing everything when those services failed.
Our founders believed there was a better way — and that better way was self-custody made simple. In 2022 we shipped the first Syntercept prototype to a group of early testers, and in early 2023 the Syntercept One went on sale to the public. Since then we have grown one customer at a time, driven almost entirely by word of mouth.

The Syntercept One enters closed beta with 500 testers across 20 countries. Their feedback shapes the final firmware.
Syntercept One launches publicly. The Syntercept Mini follows six months later as a compact everyday option.
We introduce Syntercept Steel, our disaster-proof phrase backup, and expand support to 40+ assets.
Syntercept ships its 12,000th device and opens our expanded San Francisco support center.
